Date: 18th September 2024
Venue: Ganesh Khadi, Dombivli (W)

On the auspicious occasion of Anant Chaturthi, the NSS Unit of Vande Mataram Degree College, Dombivli (W) conducted a Khadi Clean Drive on 18th September 2024 at Ganesh Khadi, a popular immersion spot in Dombivli (W).

The event was aimed at promoting environmental awareness and maintaining cleanliness at public places, especially during major cultural and religious festivals. As part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and in alignment with the values of social responsibility and environmental consciousness, the VMDC NSS volunteers carried out a post-immersion cleanup drive at the Ganesh Khadi where Lord Ganesha idols were immersed.

The activity began early in the morning with a briefing by NSS Program Officer Prof. Yogesh Kamble, following NSS volunteers equipped with gloves, masks, garbage bags, and cleaning tools, actively participated in the cleaning operations. The volunteers collected a significant amount of waste including floral offerings, plastic bags, and other non-biodegradable materials, ensuring the Khadi area was left clean and hygienic post-festival.

Volunteers also interacted with the local public and devotees, sensitizing them about eco-friendly practices such as using clay idols and avoiding single-use plastics during religious festivities.

The clean drive not only contributed to preserving the natural beauty and sanctity of Ganesh Khadi but also instilled in students a deep respect for community service and environmental stewardship.

The NSS Unit of Vande Mataram Degree College remains committed to contributing towards a cleaner and greener society through such meaningful initiatives.
